I’m Joe Rothenberg, an animator and cartoonist from central Texas.
My lifelong obsession with comics turned professional at age 13 when I started writing and drawing a panel called “Insanity Fair” for the Williamson County Sun, earning a whopping $3 per comic.
I got my BA in animation at the University of Southern California where I created the Annie-nominated short “Ladies Knight” before being commissioned by Nickelodeon to create a pilot called “Gumwad Island.” This helped fuel a successful career as an independent animator before I landed a steady gig as an animator/illustrator in the marketing arm of a major financial firm where I work as of this writing.
In 2017, I returned to my first love when I started posting comics online, and over time I’ve built up a robust and joy-filled side business selling my comic books at local conventions. Currently I write and draw 4 series:
Joetatochips, my main series, appeals to fans of webcomics and one-off gags.
Tall Problems provides comical catharsis for folks like me who don’t quite fit in.
The Forgotten Ones reveals prehistoric creatures who left no fossil evidence behind.
Castle Winkeldorf is a fantasy adventure series for kids starring a quick-witted princess, a dimwitted knight, and an outwitted dragon.
I am dedicated to continually upping my game as a cartoonist, and I am delighted to be a member of Texas Cartoonists.
